Telephony from GEN, since 2000

Your own phone system, not seats rented by the month

A switch dedicated to you, with Asterisk underneath, on your site or in our own UK data centres. It is configured however your business works, and adding a member of staff does not add a line to the monthly bill.

Services

The platform, the switch and the software on it

Bare Asterisk to FreePBX and commercial platforms, a predictive dialler built for UK compliance, and development on top of all of it.

Why own the switch

Per-seat platforms get dearer every time you grow

Published UK prices for hosted per-seat platforms typically run from about £10 to £25 per user per month. At 30 users and £15 a seat that is £450 a month. Our managed switch for up to 30 endpoints is £99.95.

On-site or hosted, it is the same switch and the same capability, so the choice comes down to where your people sit. If every extension is in one building, put the switch there. If they are spread across offices, homes or the road, host it with us.

What comes with it

  • Voice encrypted between handset and switch, as standard
  • Numbers ported with the switch ready before the port completes
  • Inbound calls fall back to mobiles if your connection drops
  • Recording held in encrypted storage in the UK, with access audited
  • Any SIP trunk provider, with least-cost routing across several
  • Analogue gateways for existing systems, up to 60 lines

Endpoints

The right phone on every desk

We are partners of Yealink and Fanvil, and supply, provision and support their handsets across every range, alongside softphones and specialist devices.

Heritage

Decades of telecoms, not a reseller's price list

GEN has run communications for businesses since 1989, from X.25 and ISDN through to the largest Hayes Century dial-up operation in the world. We became a VoIP provider on Asterisk in 2000 and launched the first public encrypted voice service in 2005.

Our own telephony still runs on the same Asterisk and FreePBX switches we build for customers, and the engineers who look after yours are in-house, UK based and on shift around the clock.

  • 1990Our first machine learning network, predicting when telephone calls would end
  • 1997Hayes Century remote access, growing to 80 racks and points of presence in ten countries
  • 2000The first VoIP provider on Asterisk, offering IAX2 and then SIP to replace branch exchanges
  • 2005The first public encrypted voice service, encrypted IAX2 and RTP on Asterisk
